Part of my series: Everyone Told Me to Delete TikTok. I Refused. Here Are 10 Reasons Why.

Nobody warns you that getting older just happens.

One day there’s a grey hair. Then a wrinkle. Then your muscles are sore in the morning for no particular reason. And suddenly the style that worked for you at 30 just doesn’t feel right anymore.

After my cancer, when I lost my hair, I felt it even more strongly. The person looking back at me in the mirror needed something different. I just didn’t know what.

I didn’t want to hire a stylist. I didn’t know where to start.

So I went to TikTok.

What I found was limitless — makeup tips, skincare routines, hair, clothing. All fast, all simple, all completely in my style. And the algorithm figured me out quickly. It understood my age, my preferences, where I was in life. And it started serving me ideas I never would have found on my own.

Then one video stopped me completely.

A woman looked straight into the camera and said: “If you are still wearing skinny jeans, I know exactly how old you are.”

I looked at my wardrobe. Almost everything was skinny jeans.

I have since completely transformed how I dress. How I do my makeup. How I take care of my skin. Not because someone told me I had to — but because TikTok showed me possibilities I didn’t know existed.

Getting older is inevitable. Getting stuck is optional.

Next week: Reason 8 of 10.
